Affiliate Marketing Basics: Let’s Talk About Traffic

When you're just getting starting in Affiliate Marketing, one of the most important things you need to learn about is traffic - specifically what it is and how to get it.

Why?

Because although it's become somewhat of a cliche these days, the truth is, "the money is in the list" - but that means YOUR list, not the list of the people whose products you're selling - at least not if you want to be successful.

Here's why. As an affiliate, your job is to find people who want to buy the products you're promoting, right? So to do that, you need to write an ad (or hire a copywriter to write it for you), and send people to a Website where they can buy the product.

BUT - there's a serious problem with using this method. Do you see what it is?

Anywhere from 60 to 95% of the people you send to the sales page probably aren't going to buy the first time.

1. Most people want to be certain that they're making the right decision, so they usually need to see or hear from you between 5 to 12 times before making a buying decision.

2. If you're paying for the ad and sending people to the seller's Website, the ones who don't buy disappear forever. (And neither you nor the seller will benefit.)

3. Of those who do buy, if you're only sending them to the sales page, YOU still lose them forever because you have no way of knowing who they are.

Here's the solution:

1. Write your ad and send prospects to a well-written squeeze page - YOUR squeeze page. (A squeeze page is a single page Website that has one purpose - to convince prospects to give you their contact information. Squeeze pages should be simple - no flash, no links, and if you use a graphic or photo, keep it simple and make sure it relates to the purpose of the page. How do you convince prospects to give you their contact information? By giving them information that is what they're expecting to find and that's useful to them.)

2. Offer them an incentive to give you their contact information. (This could be a free report, a free newsletter, an audio or video product - just make sure it's related to the niche or affiliate product.)

3. After they've opted in to your autoresponder, send them to your affiliate sales page.

4. Follow up with them on a regular basis - mixing good information, free bonuses from time to time and additional affiliate products.

Lather, rinse, repeat. (Once you're making money from your first affiliate product, move on to the next and then the next and the next.)

The best thing about this is that you can set most of it up on your autoresponder, so you turn it into a "system" and it runs "almost" on autopilot. (There is NO SUCH THING as a business that runs 100% on autopilot - and don't believe anyone who tells you differently.) Any business - real business - takes work and effort. But by setting this system up this way, your autoresponder does the majority of the work, and you will only need to do simple updates and make sure you keep fresh information flowing.

The Different Types Of Model Prototyping From Planes To Automobiles

Rapid prototyping is an intensive process of collecting information on requirements and on the adequacy and functionality of fairly new product designs. Model prototyping is an important data resource during the different stages of product development. Model prototyping makes use of various kinds of rapid prototyping techniques to provide the right model types used for different testing procedures. Such techniques may require the use of requirements animation, incremental, and evolutionary prototyping.

1. Requirements Animation- is the method used mainly to demonstrate functionality in test cases that can be easily assessed by users. Software tools are used to produce representational prototype models that are built using animation packages as well as screen painters.

2. Incremental prototyping- enables the development of large prototype system models installed in phases in order to avoid delays between product specification and its final delivery into the consumer market. Once the customer and supplier have agreed on certain core features, the installation of a skeleton system is applied as soon as possible. Important requirements can be checked out as the model is being used, enabling changes to core features while in operation with extra and optional features can be added later.

3. Evolutionary prototyping- considered as the most integral form of prototyping. It acts as a compromise between production methods and with that of model prototyping. Employing this technique, a model prototype is initially constructed that is then evaluated as it evolves continually and becomes a highly improved end product. Many designers believe that more acceptable systems would result if evolutionary prototyping were interconnected with periods of requirements animation or rapid prototyping. Here the tools are the actual facilities resources where the final system will be implemented.

The use of different model prototyping techniques can help do away with the uncertainties about how well a final design may be able to fit into the end user's needs. The different model prototyping techniques help product designers make the necessary decisions by obtaining information from initial test users about the effective functionality of a certain product prototype.

Model prototyping can also be an effective aid in determining how effective and ideal the features and the overall design can be for proposed users. Model prototyping and the subsequent testing procedures can provide useful representation information that can reveal possible design flaws, effective features as well as useless functions that can either be corrected, enhanced or done away with on the next stages of product development.

Before a product is introduced to the public, the inventor has to draw up a plan and put it in paper. This is exactly what the Wright Brothers did when the first airplane was built and took off into the air.

More than a hundred years later, the airplane has evolved from being a propelled machine into one that is powered with jet engines. Today, there are planes that are used for private and commercial use but those that can travel more than four times the spend of sound are used for military purposes.

There were a lot of changes through the years that made this happen which occurred both in times of war and peace. In fact, the innovations made towards the end of the Second World War paved the way for the jet age.

This is done by reviewing the old equipment such as the V2 rockets and then reinventing it so that a plane can use the same principles in flight over greater distance and height. The aeronautical industry is not the only one that does this because other fields are doing the same thing, which is better known as prototyping.

Prototyping by definition simply means learning from things in the past such as an old design and improving on it. This will cost both time and money in order to perfect the system, which is the reason some car manufacturers only release, a new model every five years.

Some of the things designers and engineers will look at are flaws in the old model. This could be from customer complaints as well as reports from dealers in the field who received the owner's vehicle and needed a repair. The company may make recalls like what Ford has done over the past few years and the only way to prevent this from happening again is by correcting those mistakes.

When the people think that the errors have been corrected, it is time to test this by making one model and then seeing how well it performs through a racecourse. Sensors, cameras and the input of the test driver will be collected so this can be reviewed for analysis.

If everything goes well and the budget for the new model is reasonable, then the company can begin production. Marketing will just have to think about the name of the new car and the events to launch this, which will surely excite regular clients who have purchased a vehicle or two in the past.

Spread the Word About Your VIP Service

Your restaurant is only as good as the word of mouth about it. If you're not causing a stir with your good service, you won't be bringing in the high quality clientele. Champagne buckets and personalized meal plans only go so far to cause your clients to do the marketing for you. You need to learn how to effectively market your VIP service too.

Be as Good as Your Reputation

When you want good word of mouth, you need to make sure your restaurant can hold up under scrutiny. That is, you need to be as good as you want people to think you are. Try to come up with a list of special services you can offer to your clients and then make sure that every guest gets a taste of this list.

This can be something a simple as a free drink with dinner or beautifully arranged meals -- it doesn't have to cost you any money. But create an impression with each and every guest when they eat at your restaurant. This is going to get people talking and it keeps people coming in.

Advertise Where Your Customers Are

Advertising is somewhat of an archaic form of marketing, it seems. After all, you don't see world class restaurants advertising in the newspapers. What you need to do is look at where your ideal customers already are. For example, if you want to appeal to the rich and famous, you need to be advertising in the hotels where they might be staying. Talk with the hotel to see if you can get listed in the services they recommend to their guests so that you can get and stay noticed.

If you are looking to cater to the business class, you need to advertise with tourism bureaus and with travel agencies. This way, you will encourage a trip to your restaurant as a part of their travel plans.

When you're a healthy restaurant, you might want to advertise at fitness centers and spas as a part of a healthy spa day -- check with the businesses to see how you can both benefit from this type of situation.

Press Releases Work

Creating validity for your restaurant is one of the most important marketing tricks you can learn. Write or have someone else write up a press release that explains the benefits of your restaurant. This release should be sent to press release websites as well as to your local newspaper entertainment section to help spread the word about your place.

Honestly, people believe everything they read and see online, so getting your restaurant 'noticed' in this way is going to bring more people in the door. This article should be factual without being sales-y and it should describe various things your restaurant offers that no others do. Since it looks like 'news,' the reader will be more likely to find out more.

Smooth Sailing with an ASP Shopping Cart

An ASP shopping cart program has helped many small business website owners find their way to success. It is not uncommon to run across a website whose shopping cart program is either too big or too small for the amount of merchandise being offered. This can hurt a website even if it is professionally designed and offers only the finest quality goods.

Those who shop online often do so for the convenience; however, there is a good amount of safety that is expected as well. A shopping cart program that is slow to move or stalls does not communicate convenience or safety to a customer. It is likely that customers will waste no time taking their business elsewhere.

In order for any website to process sales successfully, the right size program will always be an essential element. Just as with a brick and mortar store, long drawn out and confusing checkout processes will only frustrate a customer. Once a website gets a reputation for a lousy checkout system, it can be hard to woo customers back.

A number of individuals just starting out tend to find an ASP shopping cart program provides the best advantages. This is especially true since a third party provider can host this type of system. Those new to owning a small website may not have the time or the experience to invest in designing their own shopping cart system.

A vast majority of storefront providers focus on offering a user-friendly system that requires no programming skills or technical knowledge. Many site owners use this type of program until their skills get to where they are comfortable personally customizing their checkout system. Until then, one can count on their third party provider to make sure their system is free of snags and always up and running.

Another benefit of choosing an ASP shopping cart is that it can be easily installed in an already established website. Companies often provide site owners with a knowledgeable tech support system to make sure all software interfaces smoothly. In addition, companies typically offer a money back guarantee if a site owner is not satisfied with the way the system works.

One central element of setting up a checkout system is establishing accepted payment methods. Companies offering bundle packages often deal with these aspects so site owners do not have to. Affordable packages can be found with not only the payment methods already set in place but the merchant accounts securely established as well.

Offering customers a variety of payment methods is not only handy; it can lead to better sales, especially when offering payment methods via electronic check or PayPal. Allowing for only a couple of different payment types can severely reduce a site's customer base. However, as the majority of online shoppers use credit cards to pay for their purchases, it is important to have a shopping cart system that is compliant with all credit card processing regulations.

A quality software package will also allow site owners track sales and profits. Owning any kind of business will require keeping accurate records of such things as sales tax totals. It is also useful for keeping track of what payment methods are used most and when.

While offering good quality merchandise can draw customers to a site, a well put together shopping cart package can mean repeat customers. With a number of websites to compete with, the last thing a site owner wants to do is give their competition more business. If one decides to draw in customers with online coupons and discounts, it is imperative to have an ASP shopping cart system that can deftly handle these types of transactions.

How to Use Yahoo! Search Marketing Analytics to Improve Your Campaign Performance

If you are going to be successful running Yahoo! Search Marketing campaigns for your business, then you must use analytics to measure the performance of various elements of your campaigns. For instance, you need to know which keywords generate the most conversions. This will allow you to allocate your budget to those keywords that generate the highest return on investment. To turn analytics on:

1. Log into your Yahoo! Search Marketing account. 2. Click the Administration tab. 3. Click the "Analytics" link on the sub-menu. 4. Click the blue "Enable Analytics" button.

It will serve you well to have some kind of well-defined conversion event on your web site. This gives you something to measure. If you sell products, it's easy. You just pass the amount of the sale to the analytics, and Yahoo! will calculate how much profit you are making on your campaign. If you sell services, it's a little more difficult. In that instance, what you need to do is assign some kind of value for having a visitor complete some action on your web site.

Conversion tracking like we are talking about here, where you can actually determine with precision the profitability of every keyword in your campaign, is accomplished by placing a snippet of JavaScript code on the page of your web site that signifies the completion of a conversion event. Examples are an order confirmation page for a web site that sells products, and a mailing list signup thank you page. Into the JavaScript code you pass the value of the transaction. So if you sell products, you would pass through the actual amount of money you made on the product. If you sell services, you might pass through a static value like $1 every time someone signs up for your mailing list.

If you have enough data, you can more accurately assign a value to an event like a newsletter signup. For example, if you know that your average customer is worth $100 in profit, and you know that 5% of the people who sign up for your newsletter eventually become customers, then you can assign a newsletter signup a value of $5 ($100 X 5%). This means that every newsletter signup is worth $5 in revenue, because for every 20 you will make $100 in profit. You should be able to come up with a reasonable guess about how much profit you earn on the average customer. After you have generated a few hundred newsletter signups, you will have a good idea what your average conversion rate is for newsletter subscribers.

To start tracking your campaign financially, you need to enable "Conversion Only" analytics.

To enable Conversion Only analytics, tags that record conversion events and revenue:

1. Click the radio button next to "Conversion Only Analytics".

2. Click the blue "Activate" button.

You will see a section of the page that contains a snippet of code something like:

window.ysm_customData = new Object(); window.ysm_customData.conversion = "transId=,currency=,amount="; etc...

As the instructions say, you need to place the code snippet in the header section of the page on your site that represents your converting event.

If you sell items that can be different prices, such as items in an ecommerce shopping cart, you will need to have your web site administrator or programmer place some code that will dynamically insert the price. It should be appended to ",amount=" in the appropriate line of the JavaScript code snippet.

For example, if the sale is for an item that costs $24.95, line 4 of the code snippet above would end:

...conversion = "transid=,currency=,amount=24.95";

If you only sale a single-priced item, or if you are a service business that is going to assume some dollar value for the converting event, you can always pass the same dollar amount through by setting the "Revenue Value:" dropdown on the Analytics Settings page to "Constant Average Value", typing the amount in the textbox, and clicking the "Save" button. If you do this, you don't have to worry about modifying the JavaScript code to pass the amount of the sale through.

When you activate analytics, some new columns of data are added to your campaign summary, campaign detail, and ad group detail charts: conversions, revenue, CPA (cost per acquisition), and ROAS (return on ad spend). This will show you at a glance how well your campaigns, ad groups, and even keywords are doing financially.

If you need some more detailed information about setting up analytics, such as configuring your ecommerce platform to pass revenue data to the tracking code, refer to the Yahoo! Search Marketing Analytics Setup Guide, which is a PDF file that can be downloaded from Yahoo! at help.marketingsolutions.yahoo.com.

eBay Selling and Fraud

Have you heard of people making over $10,000 selling their products on Ebay? For some, online auctions like Ebay are their main, or only source of income. But making money on Ebay isn't something that can be done overnight.

You will need to analyze the potential market, and choose your products carefully in order to maximize your profit.

The first step in order to attract buyers to look professional. When listing your product, don't describe your product as "Cool fone 4 sale." Use proper spelling and grammar but keep you description short and sweet.

Be descriptive but make sure it is short and to the point. Use high quality photos and make your add attractive, but not so glamoured up that it looks tacky. Choosing the proper category to list your product in is also important. Try to put your item in the most descriptive category as possible.

If you are selling a smart phone, instead of listing in the cell phone category, list your item in the Cell phones, Smart Phones category. This will help to attract specific buyers who are interested only in your article.

Next, you should perform some research. By learning what the demand for your product is, and what the average price it is selling at, will help you determine the most affective strategy when selling your product on Ebay.

When people look at you Ebay listing, after looking at the picture, they look at the writing. In order to have the most affective listing, you should spend time creating a well crafted listing that will entice potential buyers. However, it is important to remember that too much reading may turn people away from your ad.

The more payment options the better. By allowing potential buyers to pay via credit card, PayPal, personal check, or money order, you are attracting more buyers.

If you limit your payment options, you may be losing out on buyers who are unable to pay through your selected payment options

The first step to ensuring the correct pricing for your item is to do some research. Search for your item, and similar items on EBay. By getting a better understanding of how other people have priced their items, you can also charge the same price, keeping your item competitive,

Don't think that you can charge a bit extra and make some more money because most likely buyers will go for other items and not yours. Don't go onto EBay thinking that you will be able to ask for the full price of your item, or even half the price.

If you are selling a used item, you will be lucky to get three quarters of the price you bought it for. Try setting your reserve price, or the lowest bid that you will sell for, at at least half of the price you bought the item for.

Of course if you are offering a rare or collectible item, you will be able to charge higher price. Also remember that you need to take into account shipping costs.

If your item is selling for $70 but shipping will cost the buyer an additional $30, they may be turned down by the fact that the item costs $100.

Ahh, now we get to the final part of any EBay transaction, shipping. Without shipping your transaction can't be completed.

The right shipping practices will help to ensure that your customer receives their item in perfect condition. This will make the difference between a happy and unhappy customer, as well as negative or positive feedback.

Remember to use proper packaging. If you are shipping multiple items or pieces, wrap each item individually to ensure proper protection. Pack your package with bubble warp or packing peanuts.

Because packing peanuts may move while being shipped, it is a good idea to pack the peanuts in tightly so that you can hear no rattling. You can also use new rigid side boxes.

These boxed have corrugated sides, offering maximum stability and strength, and will ensure that your box does not get crushed in transit. Remember not to exceed the maximum gross weight of the box you are using. It is important that you package and tape your shipment up right.

Cellophane tape, masking tape, string, or paper tape will not be sufficient when packaging your item, and most postal services won't accept a package that has been taped using these methods.

Try using water activated paper tape, nylon reinforced tape, or pressure sensitive plastic tape to ensure your package stays safe in transit.

By following these safe packaging practices, you will help to ensure both you and your customer are satisfied. This will result in a positive feedback on EBay and will encourage buyers to buy from you.

"A majority of sellers will see their fees go down," said company spokesman Usher Lieberman. "We are basing our success on their success and we want to encourage sellers to list more items with us."

Firstly, you should always check the persons feedback. In general, I only deal with buyers or sellers with a rating of 95% or greater. You can also see what other EBay members say about the member you are buying from or selling to, so you can be sure that you are informed before you go through with the transaction.

Most phishing on EBay comes in the form of buyers offering to pay you through a bank to bank transfer or through money order deposited directly into your bank account. These methods of payment require you to reveal your personal information about your bank account numbers, and will allow the scammer to make purchases online using your identity.

Remember to never, ever, EVER, give out any personal information on the Web, unless it to a secure and trusted website.

The second form of phishing comes in the form of fake emails claiming to be from Ebay or PayPal, asking for your personal information. These emails will come in the form of the standard PayPal or EBay emails, complete with pictures and warnings to never give out your personal information.

The sender will always be service at paypal but the actual email account used to send the email will be a third party free service. The most common third party email account is ... at account Remember, EBay, PayPal, and any other large corporation send emails from their own domain name.

If you put your mouse over the link they want you to click in their email then look in the status window on the bottom left of your browser you will also see that the link does not take you to paypal, but a site that looks exactly like it so they can steal your login information if you try to login there to check your account without knowing any better.

If you happen to receive one of these emails help the fight against identity theft by forwarding the respected email to either spoof at paypal or spoof at ebay so they can track the origin of the email and hopefully stop another source of fraudulent emails.

Online Marketing Tips That Will Save Your Advertising Campaign

The field of internet marketing has undergone countless changes in recent years. Many of these changes are due to increased recognition and rejection of marketing tactics by potential customers. As internet customers become educated about marketing methods, they increasingly avoid acting in ways that marketers hope they will.

What can you do to avoid the avoiders? How do you get your message out to consumers who are already wary of any type of advertisement? How do you get them to your website? There are a few online marketing tactics that have proven very successful and they may be simpler than you think.

Email marketing boasts the best advertising return on investment. The advertising budget that you spend on email marketing is directly traceable to sales made because of that campaign. This doesn't mean that spamming will translate into a fat bank account. What it means is that by targeting and sending your audience an active advertisement, you will get better results than you would with a passive advertisement on a website.

The difference between the two; passive ads and targeted email, is in the delivery. An email advertisement conveys a sense of urgency, a prompt to act immediately. Email marketing is priceless for building and maintaining relationships with customers by keeping your brand and products fresh in their minds. Think of it as nearly-effortless lead generation: you put the information out there to act on and they act because it's a tangible, irresistible call to action.

On the other hand, passive ads put the customer in control. They decide to navigate their way to a website, read advertisements and click on them if moved to do so. Unless ads are spectacular or very well-placed, chances are most customers will not click them. This is not to say that text and link advertising doesn't work. On the contrary, they are extremely effective lead generation tools. However, ads have to stand out and convey a real sense of value for customers to take the time to click through.

That brings up another point about online marketing: links on websites make the modern consumer nervous. Audiences who realize that you are trying to make money from their clicks will be far less likely to click on links on your site, whether they are advertisements or not. One of the best ways to solve this dilemma is to employ a link cloaker.

A link cloaker is an ingenious little plug-in that lets you disguise the target address of links on your site. Ordinarily, when a customer hovers over a link, the status bar will show the target address. Some customers avoid clicking on affiliate links. Others choose to simply open a new browser tab and type the address in directly, which means a loss of income for you. Low Cost Ways To Generate Traffic To Your Website

If you want to have a successful website, and generate an income from that website, then there is one very important thing to remember, you have to generate a steady flow of traffic to your website. If your website has no visitors, then your site hardly stands a chance of generating an income. This will result in your site failing and you making no money.

It will probably cost you some cash to make some cash. However, it does not have to cost you everything you own. Not everyone has the unending resources that some of those big sites had when they started. You can however generate traffic to your site and not spend everything you have to do it.

Investing in high cost advertising campaigns can pay off, however it can also break you. You do not have to do this if you do not really have the resources. There are ways to generate traffic to your website without spending tons of money to do it. Many people have banked on high cost methods generating lots of sales and have ended up disappointed and out a lot of money.

If you get a high volume of traffic to your website and only get a small percentage of sales, it is still a good thing. Here are some great ways to generate traffic to your website without spending tons of cash.

Write and Submit Articles

There are many places to submit your articles online, some are even free. Your articles do not have to be long, 300 to 500 words is good. If you want to save costs, you can do the articles yourself. There are many freelance writers who are willing to write for you for a small fee, but to save money, it is wise to do those articles yourself.

Write articles that are related to the content of your site. Write about something that you have experience and knowledge in so the reader will be anxious to find out more by going to your site. Write articles that produce tips and guidelines to the subject or content on your site.

Include a resource box at the end of your article that will link readers to your site. If you provide a light, informational and interesting article, readers will be likely to visit your site for more information.

Exchange Links

This method involves contacting other site owners with similar content to your site. Most sites have links to other sites on them already. You want to exchange links with the site owners offering to link to their site on your site if they will reciprocate and do the same for you. Many webmasters are willing to exchange links with others so they increase exposure to their site. You will soon see a sudden upsurge of traffic coming in to your site from other sites.

An important factor in exchanging links with other sites is having the same type of content or product as the other site. They should share a common subject so there is continuity in providing services and information to what interests your target traffic.

Exchanging links will also increase your chances of getting a high ranking in search engine results. It is common knowledge that search engines ranks sites higher when they have both inbound and outbound theme-related links. With a good ranking position in the search engines, you will generate more traffic to your website without increasing your cost.

Traffic Exchange

Traffic exchange sites can be free or you can have a membership fee. Paid membership usually has some advantages that a free membership does not have. You earn visitors to your site by clicking on other members sites. The more clicks you have to other sites, the more views you earn to your site. That is at the free level as well as the paid level. At a paid membership, you buy more views of your site.

Traffic exchange can cost you some time to click on enough sites to build traffic coming to yours, but it does not have to cost you any money.

Join Online Communities and Forums

Forums are a great way to gain exposure to others with the same interests. This only requires your time and maybe some of your knowledge. You can share what you know with others who may have questions about what your site is about. You can get free advertising by having your website in your signature that is at the bottom of each post in the forums that you write.

Share your opinions and what you know with others and let them see how knowledgeable you are and give them the link to your site in your signature line. As you build your reputation, you also build the reputation of your site. Your name will become one that people associate with someone they can trust.
